MEI TAI
The Mei Tai is a square or nearly square piece of cloth with parallel unpadded straps emerging from the sides of each corner.
The word Mei Tai is Chinese for:
Mei: to carry on the shoulders.
Tai: strap, band
Mei Tais come with a variety of different features. The straps could be wide across the shoulders to encase the shoulders or thinner and padded to sit on the shoulders like a carrier. The ends are able to be tied. In some brands of mei tais you can sinch the bottom to make the seat a little narrower for smaller babies.
The mei tai is a good cross between a soft structured carrier and a wrap. It has less structure to it than a Soft Structured carrier and is as comfortable as a woven wrap, but has more structure to it than a woven wrap making it sometimes easier and cooler to use than a wrap.
